Public Debate “Green Transformation in Germany, Poland, and Ukraine Amid the War and Prospects for Post-War Reconstruction”

As Ukraine endures its third year of Russian aggression, post-war recovery plans have been in motion since the 2022 Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano. There’s consensus on using recovery to modernize and tackle chronic issues like low energy efficiency, crucial for European integration and security. A decentralized energy system based on renewables is seen as more resilient against Russian attacks. Germany and Poland, with their experience in green transformation and renewable energy expansion, are expected to play key roles in Ukraine’s recovery.

Tragic death of Lizaveta exposes ongoing problems of victim-blaming and gender-based violence

Our team was deeply saddened to learn today of the tragic death of 25-year-old Lizaveta, a Belarusian woman who was brutally raped, beaten, and strangled in the center of Warsaw on Friday, February 25th. Our hearts and thoughts go out to Lizaveta’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

In November, together with the Jan Nowak-Jeziorański Eastern Europe College, we invited experts from Ukraine, Poland, and Germany to discuss the challenges of this war. Selected contributions from the participants can be found in the newly released report ‘Europe and the War in Ukraine.’
