Peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan
On the initiative of the German government, Armenia and Azerbaijan have commenced peace talks today in Berlin. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock welcomed Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirsoyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov. Baerbock emphasized at the start of the negotiations that there is now a chance for a sustainable peace solution. She praised the bold steps already taken by both sides to overcome the past.
We have been active in Armenia for many years, also in dealing with the consequences of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, and have always advocated for a peaceful solution. We firmly believe in the necessity of dialogue, cooperation, and diplomacy to achieve long-term peace in the South Caucasus. We are ready to actively support the peace and reconciliation process, while strengthening the voices of the affected communities.
Our approach is based on inclusivity, transparency, and empathy. We understand the complexity and sensitivity of this conflict and are committed to addressing it with integrity and respect for all parties involved. Together with civil society, we aim to work towards finding a sustainable solution that brings stability, prosperity, and reconciliation to the region.
