On the side of Ukraine

In many of our projects, we support Ukrainians who have either left the country or remained in the country. We stand by their side during all of these incredibly frightening one and a half years (just think about it)!

It is crucial to talk about this war every day, but even more so today. Because today, 32 years ago, on August 24, 1991, Ukraine made a monumental step toward its future. After the failed Soviet coup attempt from August 18th to 21st, the Parliament of the Ukrainian SSR declared Ukraine’s independence, thus paving the way for the reestablishment of statehood. Starting from September 17th, the nation would be exclusively known as Ukraine.

This marked a step towards autonomy: the Communist Supreme Soviet of Ukraine decided to exclusively follow the laws of the Ukrainian SSR and to distance itself from the Soviet state association. Later in December, the people spoke: Over 90% voted for independence.

Today, we remember this glorious moment when Ukraine began its journey towards independence and democracy. Please join us at the demonstration organized by Vitsche Berlin! Let’s show our support and solidarity together!
