Journalists also attended the Media Training on the Rio Conventions.

The increasing complexity of environmental issues required concerted multilateral action, particularly regarding climate change, desertification, and biodiversity loss. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) organized a thematic workshop for journalists to address these challenges.

The workshop, which a regional communications specialist and Project Lead, Umweltretter Retten Angelina Davydova also spoke at, aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and reporting skills on environmental issues and Rio Convention negotiations. Scheduled alongside key events like World Environment Day and Desertification and Drought Day, the workshop included lectures, discussions, and participation in UNFCCC sessions and side events. It helped journalists and communicators produce impactful reports and promote the upcoming Conferences of Parties for the three conventions in 2024. Twenty journalists were selected for on-site participation, with the workshop in a hybrid format.
